Tamara Karsavina became an outstanding ballerina in her lifetime. Her technical perfection, intelligence, and deep feeling made her a prima ballerina. George Balanchine was captivated by her when he was a student at the Imperial Ballet School in 1913. She later danced with Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe and created many of her most famous roles sometimes opposite her partner Vaslav Nijinsky.
